You’re shut off!

April 11, 2009

Hey, Gang, sorry to have you travel all this way for nothing (and for the cruel play on words in the title of this blog) but I’ve decided to shut down Bar-land for the holidays.  I hope you enjoy whatever events you have on tap and I promise my taps will be pouring full bore next Saturday.

See you then… I’ve reserved you a nice quiet stool where we can talk.

Your friendly bartender

  5. Everyone needs a break, good sir. I think we can be trusted to manage our drinks on our own at home this weekend.

All best wishes for peace, renewal, and the budbreak during our Spring rituals and festivals – Happy Easter! Abel

  6. Happy Easter, darling friend.

Just because you’ve shut us off doesn’t mean you’ve shut us up. ;-)

I hope your holiday celebrations go very well, whatever they are.

I’ve got a wonderful ham from a local smokehouse in the oven and will be partying with a few good friends later on.

One of the better things to look forward to after a big holiday is all the leftovers and the delicious things that can be done with them. Easter is one of the best holidays for this purpose; after all, is there any better use for leftover Easter eggs than making deviled eggs, one of the best ever beer/cocktail munchies? By next weekend the ham will be down to using the little leftover bits and pieces for ham salad (to be served on top of Triscuits) and the bone, which will yield up a lovely pot of either split pea or lentil soup.

BTW, here’s a modest suggestion for a future traffic-building post. Throw a virtual party here on the blog — you can have a virtual open bar for anyone who contributes recipes for their favorite appetizers and beer or cocktail munchies. I know that Isis and CPP would be up for something like this.

    Happy holidays everyone…

Chezjake: That’s a very good idea but (not to be a killjoy here) I’m not sure I’m the right blog to do this on. I just write little stories each week, ya’ know? I’m not Captain Interactive. But let me look into it and if not, maybe you can go to our food wars friends for this. Thanks for your most clever suggestion.

Scribbler: It’s certainly your blog and I didn’t intend to have you change directions. I don’t think you need to be very interactive in order to throw a good party here. You could either use the idea as a filler for some time when your writing time is limited or maybe do a post on your ideas of what does and doesn’t make good bar food/munchies and then solicit reader input.

The best parties are those where the host provides the comfort and atmosphere for his/her guests to entertain each other. I think you’ve got a great atmosphere here already.
